  • Visit the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum and see some of my most famous (very distant) cousins—the dinosaurs. You can also explore the hall of birds, gem and mineral hall, discovery center, age of mammals, special exhibitions, and more.

  • Explore Crystal Cave at Sequoia National Park. Not only has it been one of my favorite shortcuts for the last 180 years, but it’s a stunning marble cavern made of 200-million-year-old rock. While you’re there, say hello to the largest trees in the world—the giant sequoias (and the perfect place to scratch your back, especially if you’re an oversized, bear-like cryptid).
  • To visit Sequoia National Park using the Gold Runner, take the train to the Hanford or Fresno station, transfer to a connecting bus to Visalia, and catch the seasonal Sequoia Shuttle directly into the park.

Bass Lake

  • Take a dip in my favorite swimming hole, Bass Lake. Surrounded by the Sierras and thirty minutes south of Yosemite, Bass Lake is a scenic getaway where you can fish, hike, boat, swim, camp, or warm your feet by the fire of a cute little chalet.
  • To get there, ride Gold Runner to Madera, then connect by YARTS toward Bass Lake.

Gott’s roadside in napa valley

  • If you think I’ve been surviving off twigs and berries for hundreds of years, you’re wrong. Being a California native, I know a good burger, and one of the best is from Gott’s Roadside in Napa Valley.

  • If I’m in the mood for a good beer and a relaxed atmosphere where no one asks how tall I am, I head to Tioga Sequoia Brewing Company in downtown Fresno. Not only are the beers exceptional, but their mission is to bring awareness and resources to the preservation of the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains in California—and I’ll drink to that.
