Travel beyond SoCal

California has a robust rail system, and there are intercity train services similar to the Pacific Surfliner in other areas that can add a lot to your trip. The Capitol Corridor and Gold Runner routes travel through diverse sections of the state, such as the San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Valley.

Like the Pacific Surfliner, Capitol Corridor and Gold Runner trains offer amenities such as a Café Car, free Wi-Fi, bike racks, and reclining seats that make for a comfortable ride. Amtrak Thruway buses provide connections between the three California routes.

Capitol Corridor

Connecting Northern California's most culturally and economically vibrant areas, the Capitol Corridor route spans 170-miles between the greater Sacramento region and the San Francisco Bay Area. Stations along the Capitol Corridor, including Auburn, Davis, Oakland, Santa and others, connect riders to sporting events, concerts, school, work, and more. Many attractions are within walking distance of a station, such as Levi's® Stadium, Great America theme park, Old Sacramento, and Jack London Square.

Getting to San Francisco from the train station can be done by either a dedicated thruway bus connection or a transfer to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). Info: capitolcorridor.org

Gold Runner

The Gold Runner service runs through California's premier agricultural region, which is bordered by coastal mountain ranges and some of the state's top national parks. Trains operate daily between Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Bakersfield. Other stops along the way include Stockton, Modesto, Merced, Martinez, and Fresno. Thruway buses provide connections to LA Union Station and other areas in California, like Yosemite, Santa Monica, and Palm Springs. Info: amtraksanjostg.wpengine.com
