Papel Picado is a Mexican folk art made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper. The designs can be cut with small mallets and chisels from as many as 40-50 pieces of colored paper stacked together or made by folding single sheets of paper and cutting the designs with scissors. The result is colorful and elaborate cut paper banners depicting anything from floral designs to Day of the Dead Skeletons to be hung as decoration during holidays.
